Best process intelligence software for construction and EPC (2026)
There is no single best process intelligence tool for construction. There is a best one for your situation, and for four of the five situations below it is not Crestline.
Last updated
Which one should you actually use?
None of the five general platforms publishes a construction or EPC specific process mining offering (checked 1 October 2026). UiPath's Skanska case study is RPA rather than process mining, and SAP Signavio's construction references are ERP and CX.
- Your group runs SAP end to end
SAP Signavio
Start where the process data already lives. Nothing third-party reads SAP as closely as SAP does.
- You are standardised on Microsoft
Microsoft Power Automate Process Mining
If the licensing is already in the tenant and your processes run through Power Platform, the cheapest useful answer is the one you own.
- Large multi-ERP global contractor
Celonis
Breadth across many systems and many process types, with the implementation budget and the internal team that breadth requires.
- You want to run your own analysis, on your own terms
Apromore or a PM4Py build
Open-source process mining is capable and cheap in licence terms, and expensive in the analyst time it assumes you have.
- Mid-size Indian EPC whose cash is stuck in RA bills, retention and vendor payments
Crestline
Built for that one problem: the billing chain, the retention ledger and the payment run, priced in rupees, read-only, live in about 15 days.

What to ask any of them to show you on a demo
Walk one purchase through the whole chain. A tool that cannot follow a single case end to end cannot price a delay on it either.
| Step | What to ask | What Crestline does |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase requisition raised | Show me the wait before the PO exists, not after. | Crestline mines procure-to-pay from the requisition, so the stretch site complains about is inside the measurement. |
| Purchase order issued | How many POs were raised after the invoice arrived? | Crestline flags out-of-order cases as conformance deviations with a count and a value, not as data errors. |
| Goods received (GRN) | Show me GRNs entered in a month-end batch rather than on delivery. | Crestline detects the batch-entry pattern by timestamp and reports it as a data-entry artefact, not a supply delay. |
| Invoice matched | Group the match failures by cause, with the cash behind each. | Crestline groups by cause, vendor and site, so the output is three fixes rather than an exception rate. |
| Payment released | Which payments left earlier than the agreed terms, and what did that cost? | Crestline compares each payment against that vendor's own terms, weighted by value, not against an average. |
Questions people ask when choosing
Which process mining tool is best for an EPC contractor in India?
If the problem is cash stuck in RA bills, retention and vendor payments, Crestline is built for exactly that and goes live in about 15 days read-only. If the problem is broader than project finance, or your group is standardised on SAP or Microsoft, start with Signavio or Power Automate Process Mining instead.
Is Celonis worth it for a mid-size construction company?
Celonis is built for breadth across many systems and process types, and that breadth assumes an implementation budget and an internal analyst team. A mid-size contractor whose question is 'where is my cash stuck' usually does not need that much tool, and we will say so on a call.
What does Crestline do that a general process mining platform does not?
Crestline knows what an RA bill, retention money and a variation order are, and measures the billing chain from execution rather than from the invoice. A general platform can be configured to do this; it does not arrive knowing it.
What does a general platform do that Crestline does not?
Everything outside project finance. Crestline does not do manufacturing, contact centres, task mining, automation or write-back, and it is read-only by design. For a global multi-process rollout, a general platform is the right tool and Crestline is not.
Does Crestline replace our ERP?
No. Crestline is read-only and replaces nothing. It reads the event trail your ERP already writes and never writes back to it.
More on the technique itself on how Crestline mines your ERP, and every term defined in the glossary of process and working-capital terms.
