What is a work done certificate?

A work done certificate is a document issued by a client confirming the work a contractor has executed and its value, and it is used as proof of experience when bidding for later tenders.

Also called WDC, work completion certificate, completion certificate.

Work done certificate in plain words

On a live job, the phrase also gets used for the client's confirmation of quantities in a bill. Read in a tender, it means a certificate for a finished or part-finished contract showing what was built, for whom, when and at what value.

Why does work done certificate matter?

Many tenders ask for work done certificates of a stated size and type before a contractor can bid. A project that finishes without one has earned the revenue but not the credential.

Where does work done certificate mislead?

It is not a statutory form and no single format exists. A client may issue it only on request, and some tenders accept only a certificate signed by a named level of officer, so ask for it before the site team disperses.

What do people get wrong about work done certificate?

Confusing it with bill certification
A certified bill authorises one payment. A work done certificate describes a body of work and is used to win the next contract.
Asking for it years later
The officers who can sign it move on. Requesting it at completion is much easier than reconstructing it from a closed project file.
